3 1/2 inch gauge GWR 4-6-0 No.6001 "King Edward VII"

A 3 1/2 inch gauge GWR King, No.6001 "King Edward VII", a particularly well made engine that goes every bit as well as it looks. One of the nicest we've had in recent years, we're rather taken with this one.

Recently arrived in part-exchange for a 5 inch gauge Southern Mogul, the boiler has had hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued.

On test it proved free steaming, water feeds and safety valves all worked reliably. It runs beautifully, with crisp, even exhaust beats.

The engine has been built with steam brakes although the brake valve is currently not connected. Not something we'd worry ourselves about - locomotive brakes in this gauge either a) don't work or, b) do work and lock up the wheels, with the train then pushing the locomotive along, putting flats on them in the process. A good handbrake on the driving truck or vacuum brakes on the carriages are much safer bets when it comes to stopping!

Paintwork is in good condition with a fine working patina about it - an engine that, when not out running, will look fine on display in the house.

Complete with a pair of purpose-built boxes, for locomotive and tender.
