3 1/2 inch gauge part-built Southern 2-6-2, tested boiler

A well-advanced 3 1/2 inch gauge Southern Railway 2-6-2 to LBSC's "Betty" design.

Work to date is to a fine standard, fit and finish of the motionwork and valve gear is very good - the engine pushes along freely without binding or tight spots, the chassis has been run on air by the builder.

The combustion chamber boiler is copper, silver soldered. Plates have been neatly flanged, solder shows good penetration. It has had its initial twice working pressure shell test, for which we have the club certificate.

The three piece grate is in stainless steel, with dropping centre section.

An easy to finish project from here, requiring little by way of further expenditure - an opportunity to make a particularly good example of one of the lesser-known LBSC designs.
