3 1/2 inch gauge "William" 2-6-2T

A 3 1/2 inch gauge 2-6-2T to Martin Evans' freelance "William" design.

A well built engine originally, there is wear in the motionwork and valve gear which at some stage will require rebushing; the engine runs on air in both directions with some leakage past the valves in mid-gear - we would expect improvements to valve events and running after overhaul.

The boiler held pressure exceptionally well on hydraulic test - "tight as a drum" according to the workshop notes - however both safety valves are a slack fit in their bushes. There's not really enough metal to take out to the next size up, so it's either a case of making slightly oversized valves, or helicoiling the bushes back to the original size - either solution requiring more by way of time rather than expense. We would warranty the boiler as sound, capable of passing test once the work has been done.

Overall a nicely made engine, it would be worth some work to bring it up to scratch.
