3 inch scale Allchin agricultural engine

A 3 inch scale Allchin agricultural engine. We bought this one new and unsteamed from the builder a couple of years ago - there is further information about the engine and some pictures in the archive here.

It's recently come back to us having sold at the time to a local chap, it was first steamed at the end of 2024. It's been rallied over the last 18 months, the paint suffering somewhat in the process. The original safety valves were changed for a pair of John Rex commercial pop valves for the last club boiler test. We have those, although the plate they were mounted on needs a tap put through the threads - preferably not a worn out one this time...

The lubricator is the original, made by the builder. The engine came back to us with a very small lubricator fitted which the owner wanted back - it was more suitable for a small 2 inch scale rather than large 3 inch scale engine. The original is now fitted, although missing its lid.

We hydraulic tested the boiler - a commercially made job by the estimable John Rex - when it came in. All good, the engine also has current club hydraulic and steam test certification, although will need the John Rex safety valves replacing before further use.
