3 inch scale Burrell agricultural engine

A large collection of machined parts, unmachined castings and commercially built boiler for a 3 inch scale Burrell agricultural engine to the Plastow design.

This one has come to us from a long time customer, a man who has built many models in a variety of scales over the years - the last time we met was up at Beamish Museum, we'd taken the 3 ton Wallis tractor, he was running his 4 inch scale traction engine.

Advancing years have now decided him to thin out the larger of his projects; now in his ninth decade he's decided to concentrate on the stationary steam and model aero engines in his collection.

Work to date is to a good standard and comprises:

  • Commercially built silver-soldered copper boiler by Bishop-Ellis
  • Crankshaft machined and fitted, complete with eccentric sheaves and straps
  • Hornplates profiled and fitted to boiler
  • Commercially machined gears, including differential
  • Smokebox assembly with door, chimney saddle and perch bracket
  • Front and rear axles
  • Set of front and rear wheels, painted and lined
  • Cylinder block, piston and rod
  • Machined flywheel
  • Commercially machined expansion link with part-machined eccentric rods
  • Brass tender
  • Grate and ashpan
  • Quantity unmachined castings
