32/45mm narrow gauge Roundhouse Darjeeling B-class

A 32mm/45mm narrow gauge Darjeeling B-Class by Roundhouse, modified to represent No.787 as converted for oil-burning in 2002.

Initial trials used a forced-draught system, with a diesel-powered compressor mounted on one running board. To reduce the noise - which was deemed unacceptable - a large cowling was added later, enclosing the compressor and oil tank.

Initial trials were not encouraging, the locomotive taking four hours to complete a trip of just over six miles. Modifications were made including, in 2007, the installation of a system based on that used by the Ffestiniog Railway.

None proved entirely satisfactory and, as of 2018, the engine was laid up having been robbed for parts, although with the intention of one day being restored to running order as a coal-burner.

The locomotive has had hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued.
