5 inch gauge 0-4-0T "Ajax"

A venerable example of Dick Simmonds' "Ajax" design, built in 1951 to a good standard it's survived in remarkable condition for a seventy year old engine.

The engine rolls freely and runs on air. On a twice working pressure hydraulic test the boiler appeared structurally sound, with a few minor beads from stays which would take up when hot.

Most fittings leak - not unexpected on an engine that hasn't run in some years - there is wear in the motionwork and valve gear.
