5 inch gauge Andrew Barclay 0-4-0T

A finely made 5 inch gauge Andrew Barclay 0-4-0, originally built for Provan Gas Works in 1946 - hence the cut down loading gauge - and latterly preserved at the Welshpool & Llanfair Railway.

The work of an experienced builder, with a Stirling Single, 0-6-0T "Achilles" and restoration of a 5 inch Beyer-Peacock Isle of Man locomotive to his credit.

Work to date is to a high standard; fit and finish of machined parts is good, the silver soldered copper boiler has had a twice working pressure hydraulic test for 80psi working, with certification issued for same.

The footplate mounted handpump has a beautifully turned detachable handle. An extended key is provided which fits through a hole in the rear buffer beam to open and close the blowdown valve - very convenient, we only wish more builders were so thoughtful!

The locomotive requires minor finishing work and painting, it has the potential to make a fine model.
