5 inch narrow gauge Baguley-Drewry "Harlech Castle" 0-6-0 battery electric

A 5 inch narrow gauge Baguley-Drewry 0-6-0 battery electric shunter, scratch built to a high standard, based on the Ffestiniog Railway's "Harlech Castle".

This one has come to us from the builder's family, along with the "Romulus" currently listed. The builder was a long-time member of the Ffestiniog Railway Society, basing his design on drawings of the full-size locomotive, which are included.

The chassis is powered by a pair of 12 volt batteries driving a single motor with Parkside controller. The motionwork - flycranks, rods and jackshaft - is largely decorative, the real job of transmission being done by a substantial chain drive between the frames which is practical and easy to maintain.

The locomotive runs well in either direction, the handset controlling direction, speed and the horn. A large engine in this gauge, it weighs in at over two hundredweight with batteries.

Currently finished in grey livery with wasp stripe buffer beams, it requires minor detailing work to finish including glazing the windows - there is a pack of acrylic blanks included.

The builder must take credit for producing a model which captures the look and proportions of "Harlech Castle" - we think it captures the look of the full-size engine admirably!
