A 5 inch gauge BR Standard Class 4MT, commercially produced by Silver Crest Models in 2018.
This one's been subject to significant rework by Ben Pavier of BP Locomotive Works in 2023. Work includes:
New axles, axleboxes, coupling rod bushes, and rebuilt horns
Rebushing and repinning of motion work and valve gear
New pistons, valves, and enlargement of cylinder steam ports
Axle pump removed, original injector replaced & second injector fitted
New safety valves and whistle
Original displacement lubricator replaced with pair of mechanical lubricators
Automatic drain cocks replaced with mechanical ones
All sensible modifications, resulting in a much better-running engine than other examples we've had through - fit and finish of the chassis in particular is much improved.
While the engine didn't notch up very convincingly, it does steam and run well in both directions - there's some video of it on our YouTube channel below.
In club steam ticket until mid-September, we've issued fresh commercial hydraulic and steam tests in recent days.
Complete with original documentation, firing irons and set of blanking plugs for test.
