5 inch gauge BR Standard Class 7 No.70013 "Oliver Cromwell"

A 5 inch gauge BR Standard Class 7 Britannia, No.70013 "Oliver Cromwell", a one owner engine which has come to us direct from the builder.

Assembled from a kit, the locomotive has been much modified in line with ideas outlined in the well known "Britannia Builder Diary", the two men corresponding during the respective builds of their engines (both turned out as No.70013 - there's a write-up of the other engine in the archive here).

The result is an engine that steams freely and runs very well, without need for blower to maintain pressure on the rolling road.

Paintwork in lined BR green has been executed to a high standard and remains in good condition.

The CE-marked copper boiler has had hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued. All four boiler feeds - a pair of injectors, axle and hand pumps - proved reliable, with no excuse for running low on water at the club!

Whilst in the workshop for servicing before sale, the top manifold was removed and fitted with new unions, the safety valves - which accumulated on test - were replaced.

There are minor jobs which could be done over next winter, including repacking the injector steam valves and stripping the draincocks, which work but are a little "hit and miss" in operation. The steam brake is more decorative than functional, although most drivers would tend to rely on the driving truck hand brake.

Supplied with a starter kit of coal and steam oil, firing irons and 12 months warranty. If required, we would be pleased to include a half day's training in the firing, driving and maintenance of the engine.
