5 inch gauge GNR 2-8-0

An LNER O1 2-8-0, Thompson's wartime heavy freight locomotive, built to Martin Evans' 5 inch gauge "Nigel Gresley" design which was serialised in "Model Engineer" magazine from 1968 to 1970. An older engine, well built originally but, now showing wear in the bottom end, will require some rebushing at the next overhaul.

The boiler has had hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued, with new clacks, pressure gauge and injector steam valve fitted. On test the engine proved free-steaming and ran in both directions with well-defined exhaust beats, although fitting stiffer springs would improve valve events.
