5 inch gauge GNR Stirling Single

An older 5 inch gauge model of a Stirling 8 foot single, apparently not run in many years and cosmetically distressed - it really needs a strip and repaint.

Nicely made in the first place, machining is crisp underneath; there are nice features like weighshaft balance weights, the eccentrics are number stamped.

The engine pushes along freely - doesn't run on air, the valves are passing when the regulator is opened. Boiler shows no signs of leaks or distortion when hydraulic tested at twice working pressure.

A worthwhile project to bring back to life - it's one of my favourite prototypes, probably the best-looking locomotive ever to pull a train out of Kings Cross!
