5 inch gauge GWR 15XX 0-6-0PT

One of the finest 5 inch gauge GWR 15XX pannier tanks we've seen, the work of a highly talented engineer who, nearing completion of this engine, started work on another at half size.

The pictures opposite tell the story on this one. Highly detailed, fit and finish of machined parts is excellent, the platework superb with beautifully flanged plates and neatly riveted joints.

The silver soldered copper boiler has had a twice working pressure hydraulic test with new certification issued. Feed is by injector and hand pump - there is an axle pump eccentric sheave fitted to the leading axle, with strap, rod and pump included in a seperate box of parts awaiting fitting, along with the cylinder cladding sheets.

One of those engines where, the more you look at it, the more there is to admire. We love the bunker steps, correctly set into the cab rather than soldered onto the outside; the beautifully siamesed exhaust pipes; the Acme thread brake screw; piston valve tail rod spindles; beautifully turned buffers with riveted on treads as per full-size, rather than cast in as is seen - if included at all - on many models.

The chassis, as might be expected, runs beautifully on air in either direction.

An exceptionally fine engine with the potential, once painted, to produce an exhibition quality model.
