5 inch gauge GWR 4-6-0 No.6023 "King Edward II"

This one has come to us from the late owner's family. Completed over twenty years ago, it was purchased direct from the builder and remains unsteamed from new.

A well made engine, painted and lined out in British Railways livery; the machined parts showing a high standard of fit and finish, details include dummy steam lance valve on the smokebox and working water scoop fitted to the tender.

The commercially made boiler by Swindon Boilers has its original documentation, including certification for the shell test carried out in February 2002.

During its previous ownership, the engine - mounted on a purpose-built stand - was run on air occasionally. Mechanically it remains in as-new condition.

Offered complete and air-running, the locomotive will undoubtedly require work to commission for steaming - we've never had a new engine that didn't (and that includes the ones we build ourselves!)

Happily, after many years being regarded as "unsaveable" with its rear driving wheels cut through at Barry scrapyard, an ambitious restoration project saw the full-sized "King Edward II" returned to running order, which involved casting and machining new wheels. I remember seeing the engine at Woodhams when visiting with my father in the 1970s - in those days you could just walk into the unfenced yard and wander along the rows of engines.
