5 inch gauge GWR 47XX 2-8-0

A Great Western 47XX 2-8-0, Churchward's fast freight engine introduced in 1919 and built through until 1923 - a class of nine in total, none survived to preservation.

This engine is a bit of a survivor, it ran at a private railway in France around twenty years ago, since when it's been stored in not particularly good conditions, picking up a couple of dings to the boiler cladding, scrapes to the paintwork and some surface rusting of the brightwork over the years. Unfortunate, as underneath there's a nicely built example of a well-proportioned engine, one we rarely see modelled.

It runs, although requires the nearside valve rocker repinning. Silver soldered boiler is fitted with radiant superheaters, it's been hydraulic tested at twice working pressure - structurally sound, although will require work before it next takes to the track in anger. The regulator leaks profusely.
