5 inch gauge GWR 4-6-0 No.6028 "King George VI"

A 5 inch gauge GWR 4-6-0 No.6028 "King George VI", a well advanced build - as it should be, having been started over fifty years ago and passed through three sets of hands in the meantime!

Started by the late D.E. "Laurie" Lawrence, later to become editor of "Model Engineer", it eventually passed on to another editor of the magazine in whose tenure the boiler and firebox cladding were added.

It latterly ended up in the hands of the last owner, a very gifted model engineer with some of the finest 3 1/2 inch gauge locomotives we've seen in some years to his credit (including an achingly beautiful "Jenny Lind" that we'd happily swap a right arm for). He had intended to finish the engine, however other projects intervened (and, we suspect, he's a man who would never be satisifed with anybody else's work, such are his own standards).

Work to date comprises a complete four cylinder chassis, silver soldered copper boiler with recent club hydraulic test certification and a complete, painted tender.

It comes with a large quantity of documentation, drawings and photographs including many in black and white taken in Lawrence's workshop early on in the build.

Older readers will remember Lawrence as something of an authorty on injectors (indeed, like me, you may have his book on them, he also wrote articles for "Model Engineer" on the subject). He made the injectors for the King, there is also a small tin of the reamers and collars used to make them included.
