5 inch gauge Highland Railway Glen 4-4-0

A Highland Railway "Glen" 4-4-0, built to Don Young's well-regarded design for the NBR "Glen" class.

The original engines were built at the Cowlairs works from 1913 to 1920, originally turned out in LNER green, subsequently in lined black. One of the class, Glen Douglas, survives in preservation at the Glasgow Transport Museum.

An older engine, it rolls freely and runs on air. On hydraulic test a quarter inch long hairline split in the foundation ring formed a bead of water every couple of seconds - it will need repair once dismounted from the frames.
