5 inch gauge LB&SCR K Class Mogul

A fine example of a rarely modelled prototype - Billinton's K-class Mogul, designed for the LB&SCR.

A total of 17 locomotives were built between 1914 and 1921, they gained a reputation for hard work, regularly pulling 1000 ton trains before a 900 ton limit was introduced after the war.

Billinton rated the engine as his finest design, building a 9 1/2 inch gauge replica in retirement for use on his garden railway. For many years it was displayed at Oakhill Manor, I bought the engine in 2012 and and kept it in our garden room at home for several years - an inspiring thing to contemplate over breakfast every morning, there are pictures in the archive if you want to compare the two.

This 5 inch gauge model is in excellent condition - fit and finish of machined parts is very good, paintwork finely applied and remaining in good order.

Nicely detailed, with double-nutted eccentric straps, taper-pinned collars on the motionwork and finely turned lubricators on the main rod brasses.

A previous winner of the Welsh IMLEC competition, it runs exceptionally well.
