We sold this to a local customer in 2019. A talented modeller and keen collector of ocean liners and cruise ships, it's been on display in his home museum for the last six years.
With an ever-expanding collection - bordering on an armada - the locomotive has come back to us. Photographs opposite were taken in March 2025, words below written in 2019.
A 5 inch gauge rebuilt Royal Scot, turned out as 46109 "Royal Engineer".
Built as a two cylinder engine, the standard of machining is good, chassis is well executed and nicely detailed including dummy Wakefield lubricators, working leaf springs on the driving wheels and tender and castellated nuts fitted throughout the motionwork.
Paintwork is poor, the green has been applied over brass cladding sheets without etch primer, so has taken to falling off in large flakes.
The engine came to us without paperwork - although the firebox and smokebox evidence past use, it hasn't been steamed for some time. On visual inspection the boiler is a gauge thinner than we'd expect for something of this size - a pity, as it's otherwise well made.
