5 inch gauge LNER D30/2 4-4-0

A 5 inch gauge LNER D30/2 4-4-0, a class of locomotives built between 1914 and 1920 by the North British Railway. A long-lived design, the last of the class - by then in British Railways ownership - was withdrawn in 1960, No.62427 "Dumbiedykes" was withdrawn the previous year, in 1959.

This one came to us with a part-built D11 from the same builder. We're told it has been unused since lockdown, however a chassis so stiff to turn over it borders on being seized, a leak from the wet header, and blow by past regulator, pistons and valves would tend to suggest a full overhaul rather than recommisioning is now required.

That said, a worthwhile project - it's a handsome design, not one we see modelled very often.
