5 inch gauge LNER O1 2-8-0

We sold this engine in 2019 - finely made, it had been test-steamed when first built thirty years before, since when it had been on display in a museum. It came to us from the late builder's widow, still in as-new condition - there's a writeup and pictures of it in the archive here.

The last five years have not been kind to the engine, with much use and a lack of maintenance bordering on criminal - we've seen engines that have had thirty years regular club use in better condition!

On the bright side, the commercially built boiler has had a hydraulic test with new certification issued - it remains in good condition, warrantied as sound.

The chassis needs an overhaul, with all rods needing rebushing. The drain cocks require servicing - none currently work - and the pressure gauge needs replacing.

The axle pump - originally fitted to the tender - has been removed since the engine was last with us. The back of the tender has suffered some trauma, with damaged paint and bent top valance. The coal bars have been bent and will require carefully forming back into shape (a job we did on a Stirling Single last year - time-consuming and a bit fiddly, but not difficult).

A worthwhile project - underneath the chipped paintwork and neglected chassis is a well-built locomotive, until recently in ex-works condition despite being over fifty years old. It deserves a decent home.
