5 inch gauge LNER V2 "The Green Howard"

A 5 inch gauge LNER V2, 60835 "The Green Howard". It's come to us as part of a collection from the builder of the excellent 9F we sold recently, which included a fine 7 1/4 inch gauge LSWR 4-4-0, 2 inch scale Fowler Showmans Road Locomotive and 3 inch scale Atkinson steam wagon.

Built in prototypical three cylinder form, with Gresley-Holcroft conjugated valve gear, the engine hasn't been used in recent times, the last club boiler test dating from 2019.

The boiler has had new hydraulic and steam tests in recent weeks, with certification issued for same. The engine runs, although has a variety of jobs which will require doing over next winter, including:

• Rebuild/replace hand pump - originally double acting, it has been converted to single acting, in the course of which the casting has been cracked
• Slight weep on regulator boss and front LH piston valve cover
• Locomotive hand brake ineffective
• Whistle valve seized shut
• Automatic drain cocks unreliable (in our experience endemic in the design)
• Injector clack valves leak slightly, although not enough to prevent injectors working

Exhaust is somewhat asthmatic - either piston rings or valves - it runs better forwards than backwards, there's some video of it running on the rolling road here.

Complete with custom built transport/storage crate for the locomotive and steel carrying frame for the tender.
