5 inch gauge "Maid of Kent" 4-4-0

A 5 inch gauge Southern 4-4-0, built to LBSC's popular "Maid of Kent" design.

Completed in 1993, with a commercially built boiler supplied new in 1984 by the estimable Reg Chambers of Weymouth, the engine remains unsteamed, in ex-works condition.

The boiler has had a hydraulic test with new certification issued - unsurprisingly it's in excellent condition, we would warranty as sound.

The chassis rolls freely but doesn't currently run on air, with leakage past the valves. Not totally surprising after having been stored, unused for thirty years, it will require the cylinders stripping to investigate.

Complete with safety valve setting tool, drop plate to fit between locomotive and tender - and a set of proper blueprints! So much easier to read than the faded black on white drawings we so often see - why on earth did they go out of fashion?
