5 inch gauge Southern L1 4-4-0

A 5 inch gauge Southern L1 4-4-0, built to LBSC's popular "Maid of Kent" design.

An exceptionally well-built locomotive, it's one of the nicest-running examples we've seen. Completed in 1960, a new CE-marked Southern Boiler Works boiler pressed to 100psi was fitted in 2014.

The boiler has had hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued. We've fitted a pair of new safety valves and new injector, the original picking up slightly wet - we felt, given the quality of the rest of the engine, it deserved something that worked perfectly!

On test it proved free-steaming and ran superbly, notching up in either direction, the square, well-defined exhaust beats accentuated by the large driving wheels.

Supplied with12 months warranty and a starter kit including coal, oil and a set of firing irons. If required we would be more than happy to include half a day's training at our works on the firing, driving and disposal of the engine for a new owner.
