5 inch gauge Midland "990" Class 4-4-0

We last sold this engine in 2017 - at that time it had only been steamed once since completion. The work of a highly capable model engineer, the man was responsible for a total of seven locomotives during his lifetime, three of which we've been lucky enough to have owned.

Before reading further, it's worth having a look at the listing of the engine from 2017. In pretty much ex-works condition at that time, it was resplendent in Crimson Lake livery and ran beautifully.

The engine has recently arrived back with us - with a fire still on the grate when it came in we're not sure it's been cleaned since it was last here.

It runs on air, although leaks past either valves or pistons; motionwork bushes are well worn and the left hand clack needs a new gasket.

On the bright side the boiler has survived unscathed, it's had a recent hydraulic test with new certification issued.

Listed as a running restoration, the engine now needs a new owner with the experience and vision to bring it back to the condition it was in only four years ago. They will be well-rewarded for their efforts - despite the neglect, it remains a finely built example of this most elegant of prototypes.
