5 inch gauge petrol electric Deltic

An interesting scratch-built 5 inch gauge model of the Deltic "Tulyar", all metal construction with petrol-electric drive - it makes for a formidable thing, weighing in at around 250 pounds (Harry and I can lift it, but wouldn't want to carry it far).

Ingeniously built around a single cylinder four stroke engine driving a car dynamo, which can be used to start the engine. There is a sealed gel-type battery fitted which also works a vacuum pump for train brakes - there's a driver's brake valve and gauge on the dashboard.

Complete with a steel-framed carrying cradle.
