5 inch narrow gauge Vale of Ffestiniog

A scratch-built 5 inch narrow gauge battery-electric "Vale of Ffestiniog".

The original locomotive was built by CH Funkey & Co of Alberton for a mining company in Namibia. A pair were acquired by the FR in 1993, one being significantly re-modelled to fit their restricted loading gauge. Highly successful, it remains one of the most powerful locomotives in their fleet (and I can personally testify to how warm and comfortable the cab is on a cold morning!)

Fitted with a Parkside 24V 100A controller with remote handset, driving a pair of Parvalux 24V 8.3A motors fitted one per bogie.

A large locomotive at over four feet long. With all steel construction it weighs a little under 200 pounds with batteries, giving good adhesive weight.

The locomotive is in running order, with single tone horn and lights to the front. Batteries are in their autumn years, however replacements are readily and inexpensively available.
