5 inch gauge Royal Scot 46112 "Sherwood Forester"

A 5 inch gauge rebuilt Royal Scot, No.46112 "Royal Sherwood Forester", presented in BR livery.

This one has come to us from a long-time customer, an engineer with long experience of both locomotives and traction engines. Acquired part-built several years ago, work has progressed sporadically until now, in his ninth decade, he has taken the eminently sensible decision to part with some of the projects on his bench, the better to concentrate on the things he'd really like to see in steam!

Largely complete bar the lubricators - the builder didn't like the look of the original non-scale ones so removed them, but had yet to get around to scheming out an alternative.

The silver soldered boiler appears beautifully made - unsteamed from new it's complete with original club shell test certificate.

The chassis is seized - not uncommon with cast iron cylinders when out of use for extended periods - it will need disassembly to investigate.

Not a weekend's work to commission, but a worthwhile project - the rebuilt Scots are handsome engines, very much rarer in model form than the Fowler originals (which tend to be built as a two cylinder engines, taking away much of the technical interest).
