5 inch gauge Sentinel 8 cylinder uniflow locomotive

One of the more unusual machines to have crossed our threshold in recent years, this is one man's magnum opus, an eight cylinder uniflow engined Sentinel type locomotive with vertical boiler.

The designer, having got a long way with the build, didn't live to enjoy the fruits of his labours. However, he's left an engine which runs mesmerisingly on air, along with notes and drawings for the next intrepid owner's guidance.

The boiler had its twice working pressure hydraulic test when completed in 2004, with club certification issued for same.

If you'd like to see it running (and I can't imagine there's a soul reading this who wouldn't), there's some video of it running on air in the workshop here.
