5 inch gauge Shay 0-4-0 + 0-4-0

Rather like waiting for a bus then two come along at once, no sooner do we sell a super 7 1/4 inch gauge two truck Shay (enroute to the USA at time of writing) than another comes in, this time in 5 inch gauge.

Another well built locomotive, this one has come to us from the late builder's grandson. Modelled on a Model B two truck Shay of 1895, it remains in good condition, typical of an engine that's come direct from the builder - a man who remembers how long it took to build a locomotive tends to be fastidious in his driving, care and maintenance of same!

The commercially built boiler has had hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued - it needed nothing more than a new injector to replace the original which was worn and becoming unreliable. The mechanical and hand pumps both worked well.

The safety valves are well made, highly effective pop types - they work beautifully.

On test the engine steamed freely and ran very nicely - we were impressed with this one.

Complete with a purpose built storage/transport crate, fitted with a length of track on top.
