5 inch gauge Simplex 0-6-0

An interesting - and rather attractive - take on Martin Evans' popular "Simplex" 0-6-0T design, seen here done as an 0-6-0 tender engine with distinct North Eastern flavour.

Completed in 1977, the engine was last run five years ago, since when it has been stored in less than ideal conditions. The paintwork has suffered and brightwork is tarnished.

Stiff to push along after its period of storage, we suspect that a good clean and getting some oil into the axleboxes, cylinders and valves chests will considerably improve matters. The regulator is currently seized.

The boiler has had a twice working pressure hydraulic test - remarkably it appeared structurally sound and dry apart from several leaks - oozing rather than dripping - from the foundation ring at the backhead. We suspect that they could be repaired, but will require the boiler dismounting.
