5 inch gauge Somerset & Dorset 7F 2-8-0

A well-advanced 5 inch gauge Somerset & Dorset Railway 7F 2-8-0 to Martin Evans' handsome "Ivo Peters" design, serialised in "Model Engineer" magazine 1993-94.

The work of an experienced model engineer, work to date is to a good standard and comprises an air-running chassis, platework, silver soldered copper boiler and largely complete tender.

The boiler appears well made, with neatly flanged plates and good solder penetration. It has a number stamped on the backhead, we're told it has had a club test in the past, however there is no documentation to support that.

We have given it a twice working pressure hydraulic test at 160psi for 80psi working and would warranty it as sound.

Large freight engines are always something of a rarity, overlooked for the more glamorous express locomotives, although they make handsome, very practical engines for club running. The S&D 7F is even rarer - we've never had a complete one yet, closest we came was a boiler for one which we sold back in 2017.
