5 inch gauge Southern 0-4-2 condensing tank

Intrigued by the provenance of this one - if anybody has got any of this engine's early history I'd be pleased to hear it.

Built as an 0-4-2 condensing tank variant of an "Ajax", standard of workmanship is very good throughout - it carries a "Steam Age" plate, suggesting it may have been a commercial build. Although the paintwork is now getting pretty tired, mechanically it's still in good order, the boiler has just had hydraulic and steam tests after a layup of some years.

Silver-soldered boiler, radiant superheater, 80psi working pressure, feed by injector, twin axle pumps and hand pump. The condensing gear, although functional when first built, has since been disconnected (may be a problem if you're on metered water, best check before taking delivery).

Slide valve cylinders with Walschaerts gear, pole reverser in cab. Mechanical lubricator, screw-down brake.

This one was interesting enough to catch Steve's eye last week, it disappeared at the weekend before appearing back on his bench Monday, a little oilier than it had been on Friday and with a slight spring in its step. By all accounts it did good work at his club on Sunday, he posted a clip of the day here.
