5 inch "Maid of Kent" 4-4-0

We sold this one back in 2020. It's recently come back to us - it still steams and runs as nicely as ever, though with some wear apparent in the bottom end commensurate with use.

Words below are from 2020, the photographs opposite and video below taken in recent days. We've issued fresh hydraulic and steam certificates as of August 2026.

A particularly well made 4-4-0 to LBSC's popular "Maid of Kent" design, it's recently arrived in part exchange for a larger locomotive.

Workmanship is to a high standard throughout, fit and finish of the valve gear and motionwork is good - it steams freely and runs quietly.

The superheated boiler has had hydraulic and steam test in recent days with certification issued for same, it's in good order.

I have a soft spot for this design - we've had lots of them in over the years in various configurations, both inside and outside cylinders, Stephenson's and Joy valve gears, the 7 inch diameter driving wheels giving a very appealing high-geared gait.
