5 inch narrow gauge Baldwin battery-electric

A commercially-produced 5 inch gauge battery-electric shunter .Supplied new by Maxitrak in 2023, the design is based on the narrow gauge locomotives Baldwin supplied to the Australian sugar cane industry in the 1950s.

A large locomotive for the gauge, its use of bogies allows it to negotiate eight foot radius curves making it ideally suited to the more compact garden layout.

All up weight including batteries is something over a hundredweight, its power and adhesive weight specified by the manufacturer as good for pulling eight adults on level track.

Fitted with a pair of 12 volt batteries, driving eight 60 watt motors using a 4QD DNO-10 controller with remote handset. The locomotive is fitted with front and rear lights, as well as flashing roof-mounted beacons. A sound card is present but disconnected.
