7 1/4 inch gauge 3 inch scale Bagnall 0-4-0ST

A 7 1/4 inch narrow gauge Bagnall 0-4-0ST, built by a well-known model engineer, he was also responsible for the well-regarded 3 inch scale Hunslet "Elidir" design. We've a high regard for the man's work, having previously had his 5 inch gauge "Ajax" back in 2006 - another engine which ran exceptionally well.

Built to 3 inch scale rather than the more commonly seen - and substantially larger - 4 inch scale MJ Engineering design, it makes for an easy to handle and transport engine with both locomotive and driving truck fitting easily into the back of an estate car or large hatchback.

The builder has gone to a good deal of trouble to a detailed model, authentic to prototype in much of its detailing. We particularly like the cast smokebox saddle with flanged and bolted exhaust pipes, and the cruciform pattern vave chest covers with lubricators and riveted saddle tank.

Fit and finish of machined parts is good throughout, platework is nearly formed.

The silver soldered copper boiler has had recent hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued - there is previous club history with the engine. It runs very well in either direction, injectors work well and the safety valves are efficient - there's some video of it on our YouTube channel here.

There is a dummy scale whistle fitted, piped to issue a scale-sized plume of steam - the real whistle lives under the running boards.

Includes a braked driving truck, supplied new with the engine in 2007 and painted to match.
