7 1/4 inch gauge Rahaetian Railway Ge 6/6 "Crocodile"

A 7 1/4 inch gauge Rhaetian Railway Ge 6/6 "Crocodile" - based on a metre gauge prototype it comes out at a large and extraordinarily heavy machine in this gauge! The first engines of the class comprised a batch of six locomotives delivered in 1919. This engine, number 407, was the first of the second batch, delivered in 1922.

An instantly recognizable design, with centre cab and twin six wheel bogies, each fitted with a jackshaft and coupling rods. The motionwork makes for an interesting looking engine in motion - there's some video of it running on the portable track here.

Air-braked, with on-board compressor, the locomotive is powered by four batteries with separate controller boards for each bogie, we estimate weight ready to run at somewhere around a third of a ton (it takes four of us to lift one end!).

Paintwork is mainly good, with some loss on the roof.

Three of the four batteries are usable, although of known age or condition - the fourth failed on test. Whilst possible to replace just the one, better by far would be to replace all four - we can quote to supply and fit if required.
