7 1/4 inch gauge GWR Dean Goods 0-6-0

A 7 1/4 inch gauge Dean Goods 0-6-0, the work of a prolific model engineer (and son of one yet more so).

The locomotive itself is complete, however a tender has yet to be made - for initial trials it shared one with the builder's "Dukedog".

Since arriving with us the engine has had hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued following replacement of the original injectors.

The engine requires further work, including:

• Overhaul sight feed lubrication system, including fitting non-return valves to prevent oil being drawn back into the boiler via the steam supply pipe (although we'd be tempted to replace the lot with a mechanical lubricator)
• Replace burred over gland studs to allow gland to be fitted securely - required before the engine can be run
• Replace main axlebox springs
• Rebush big ends
• Make new whistle valve - which is currently blanked off - and re-site whistle, which catches on the wheel weights when running

A worthwhile project, one needing time rather than money spending on it.
