7 1/4 inch gauge "Holmside" 0-6-0T

A well-advanced 7 1/4 inch gauge 0-6-0ST to Martin Evan's popular "Holmside" design based on a National Coal Board locomotive, serialised in "Model Engineer" magazine from 1977 to 1979.

The work of an experienced model engineer, work to date is to a good standard throughout and comprises chassis complete with brakegear, cylinders with draincocks and linkage, valve gear and motionwork, the axles running in split bronze axleboxes.

Boiler is copper, silver soldered with neatly flanged plates. A twice working pressure test at 200psi showed up several pinhole leaks, however the boiler itself appears structurally sound, with no evidence of distortion at that pressure.

Smokebox assembly is complete with front ring, door, chimney and petticoat pipe.

If you're looking for a fast build, as ever Model Engineers Laser list a wide variety of profiled parts in both steel and brass for the locomotive, including cab, tanks, running boards etc.

We've sold several of these over the years - they're a large, powerful engine which is easy to look after with outside valve gear and robustly proportioned bearings. One of the nicest we've ever had was by Keith Massey, there are pictures of that engine in the archive here.
