7 1/4 inch gauge Hunslet "Lilla" 0-4-0ST with tender

A 7 1/4 inch narrow gauge Hunslet, built to the 4 inch scale "Lilla" design.

A substantial engine in this gauge, nearly a foot longer than the "Alice" class quarry Hunslets more commonly modelled. Completed in 1993, the work of a highly experienced engineer and boiler maker, a man responsible for many fine locomotives ranging from a 2 1/2 inch gauge "Dyak" up to a "Britannia", LNER B1 and A4 in 7 1/4 inch gauge.

Well made, if turned out in a somewhat sombre livery, the engine is complete with a ride in tender.

Steamed earlier in the week, it runs well - there's a short video of it here.

The original "Lilla" survived into preservation, based at the Ffestiniog Railway. A couple of weeks ago - in those days when you could still visit North Wales - Mrs P and I had a long weekend away at the FRs "Vintage Weekend Lite" event. Most enjoyable, mixture of weather with sunshine and showers, the Penrhyn Ladies in steam, as well as "Lilla" herself - pictures opposite were taken at Harbour Station.
