7 1/4 inch gauge "Jessie" 0-4-0ST

A 7 1/4 inch gauge 0-4-0ST to Ken Swan's "Jessie" design, a well-built engine by an experienced model engineer.

Born and brought up in Kenton, Middlesex, he started work with Handley Page, subsequently joining the RAF and working on Mosquitoes whilst regularly attending the North London Society of Model Engineers at Colney Heath where he ran the "Britannia" and "Rob Roy" he'd built.

He retired as a toolmaker from Avdel in Welwyn Garden City.

Largely complete but unpainted, the engine has come to us from the late builder's son. We would put it at better than 95% complete, work to date is to a high standard, as might be expected given its provenance.

An example of the builder's attention to detail is the provision of a brass plug to stop muck falling down the chimney when in storage!

The silver soldered copper boiler has had a twice working pressure hydraulic test with certificate issued for same.
