7 1/4 inch gauge Stafford 0-4-0ST with driving truck, works number 1331

A 7 1/4 inch gauge Stafford, works number 1331. We built this one in 2013 - a one-owner engine it's recently come back in part exchange for a traction engine. A well-specified engine to start with, it has been lined out, is fitted with vacuum brake equipment and has a gauge protector.

The engine has had a variety of additions and thoughtful modifications from standard - work done is to a good standard and all reversible should a new owner have different ideas on the perfect engine. Ourselves, we think it looks super!

Work includes:

  • injector overflow extensions, visible from footplate whilst driving
  • drain cocks piped forwards
  • water tank filter
  • whistle with a natty brass drip tray beneath, to collect any condensate
  • "Colonial" type sun-shade cab and cow catcher (or "roo bar" as the builder described it)
  • "Rose bud" type grate - original grate included, grates can be swapped over by undoing four bolts
  • Pivoting draw bar on locomotive
  • Headlamp
  • Four wheel vacuum braked driving truck, with electric water pump and coal bunker
  • Pivoting coupling bar and check chain fitted to locomotive
We had this one in steam last week, spent a happy afternoon driving up and down our short test track. The driving truck is comfortable, its brakes work well using the engines vacuum valve.

In excellent mechanical condition, it's a credit to its previous owner. As with all second hand Staffords and Feldbahns we sell, it's supplied with new boiler certificate, handbook, starter kit of oil and water treatment, and 12 months warranty - exactly the same as a new engine.
