7 1/4 inch gauge Standard Class 3 Mogul

This one has to come to us from a long time customer with a fine garden railway. Originally exclusively standard gauge motive power, like many of us of a certain age, he's found a move to narrow gauge means a good deal less bending down!

Whilst he's kept a couple of main line engines, our Waldenburg went North last week to join a fine Koppel we sold back in 2015, three standard gauge locomotives coming back in the van, including the Class 3.

There were only 20 Class 3s built - none survived into preservation, although work is afoot to recreate a 3MT tank. Designed by Riddles, with running gear based on the Ivatt Class 4. Although he experimented with outside Stephenson's gear on the Class 5, the Class 3 represented here thus fitted is the builder's flight of fancy - although both plausible and technically interesting.

The engine runs well, paintwork is in presentable condition. Cab is well laid out - there are fittings for vacuum and steam brakes, with a cylinder for the latter beneath the footplate, but neither are connected nor have been used whilst with the last owner.

Complete with a spare grate casting and pattern for same.
