Bensons vertical engine

A finely made model of Bensons vertical engine, a type popular in the mid-nineteenth century and built until superceded by the "inverted engine" with cylinder above the flywheel as we know it today.

Delicately proportioned, the engine turns over freely with some wear evident in the eccentric, main and big end bearings - it runs beautifully on air.
