A Clarkson twin cylinder vertical engine; built to a pedestrian standard it runs in one direction on air, the Allan straight link reversing gear more a statement of intent rather than declaration of function.

An older engine, it has run in the past for long enough to cause wear in big ends and one eccentric, each of which contribute to a knocking when running.
