Large vertical engine with reversing gear

A large vertical engine of robust proportions and imposing size, standing eighteen inches high and weighing almost forty pounds.

Built for high speed, with oversquare cylinder, balanced crank and a heavy flywheel just under two inches wide.

The engine is fitted with linked drain cocks; the Stephensons reversing gear requires provision of a lock or quadrant. It turns over freely and runs on air, albeit with a good degree of clatter from age-related wear.

A worthwhile restoration project, with the potential to make a handsome, powerful engine suitable for driving a pump or dynamo.
