Large vintage horizontal mill engine

A fine old horizontal engine, beautifully made with fish-bellied connecting rod, one-piece crankshaft, gibbed and cottered big end, split main bearings and wood lagged cylinder.

From its size, proportions and provision for variable cutoff, we suspect it was a working engine rather than a model, intended for driving small machinery in the days before fractional horsepower motors.

The engine runs well on air, with some wear evident - not unexpected in an engine of this age.
