Maxwell Hemmens 3 1/2 inch gauge display model "Locomotion No.1"

A 3 1/2 inch gauge fine-scale display model of Stephenson's "Locomotion No.1" by Maxwell Hemmens.

The model has been on display as part of a larger collection of interesting stationary engines and locomotives, including a Hemmens "Rocket".

Mounted on a wooden base, complete with display track and a perspex dust cover. Normally retained in place by threaded hangers hooked over the axles and secured beneath by nuts, we couldn't resist liberating the locomotive this morning and pushing it along the bench to watch the motionwork in action.

A truly satisfying thing to see, it really wants mounting whereby the wheels can be turned - regular readers may remember a 7 1/4 inch gauge "Locomotion" we had in many years ago with just such a stand.
