Part-built 7 1/4 inch gauge "Locomotion No.1"

An early stage "Locomotive No.1" to the David Piddington design for Reeves.

The work of a prolific model engineer who has built locomotives from O-gauge (K1 & South African Garratts) to 7 1/4 inch (Hercules and Bridget), over 15 gauge 1 locomotives for his garden railway, along with a 4 inch Ruston traction engine.

He confessed this was the only project he didn't finish - having got thus far, the idea of the traction engine came along so he went over onto that back in 2003, the last time "Locomotion" was looked at.

Work to date comprises a silver soldered copper boiler with initial club hydraulic test certificate, wheels and axles, cylinders machined (for those not familiar with this early Stephenson design, they're upside down in the boiler!). There are some other castings, a tin full of machined motion components and drawings.

Only ever had two complete examples in over the last twenty years - those were both to the earlier Greenly design, including this super engine (which, by great good fortune, I still get to see regularly).

The engine is in the current Reeves range of castings, more information on their website here.
